History: | Named by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), on July 30, 1794, (Wagner, 1937, p. 422). Vancouver gave this name to high land west of Crawfish Inlet, 14 miles southeastward. The name was reapplied to the present location by Russian naval officers in the early 1800's (Sarichev, 1826, map 19). |
