History: | "Named by Captain Dixon, in 1787. Captain Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), ""adopted (the names Forrester (for this island in 1793), and this name has been used for a century, to the exclusion of all others."" This island was originally named Santa Cristina, or ""Saint Cristina"", by Juan Perez in 1774 (Bancroft, 1886, p. 201). In 17758 Francisco Antonio Maurelle called it San Carlos, i.e. ""Saint Carlos"". Captain Douglas named it ""Douglas Island"" in 1788 (Meares, 1790, p. under the jurisdiction of USF&GS." |
