|History:||From 1907 to 1914, this site on the arctic coast of Alaska was the headquarters of Ernest de Koven Leffingwell, geologist and arctic explorer. From here, Leffingwell conducted his pioneer scientific research and explorations. During this time, he produced the first accurate map of the coast between Point Barrow and Demarcation Bay, as well as being the first person to study the phenomenon of permafrost.|
