History: | "Russian name listed by Putnam (1903, p.1014), U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, meaning ""wooded""; ""so called because of the amount of drift-wood found on the beach."" The Russian word ""drova"" means ""fire-wood."" Putnam (p.1015) lists the Aleut name as ""Kologho"" meaning ""choked"" or ""full,"" again referring to beach drift-wood." |
