History: | "Local name reported in 1905 by E. F. Dickins, US@C&GS. The Omar Mining Company operated in this vicinity, and the Kiam mining camp was nearby. The name of the mining camp was published as ""Khayyam"" by Theodore Chapin (in Brooks and others, 1916, pl. 3), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). All these names were suggested by the name of the Persian poet, astronomer, and tentmaker Omar Khayyam, author of the Rubaiyat." |
