History: | "Local name reported in 1900 by F. C. Schrader, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), who misapplied the name to Evans Islands. This error was corrected in 1904 when U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) applied the name ""Flemming"" to the proper islands. The island was probably named for George Flemming, of Ellamar, Ho had a fox farm there since 1896." |
