History: | "Named ""Cape Fair Weather"" in 1778 by Captain Cook (1785, v. 2, p. 346), RN, presumably because of the good weather encountered at the time. The name has been translated variously. It was called ""Cape Beautemps"" by La Perouse in 1786, ""Cape Buen-tiempo"" by Galiano in 1802, and ""M(ys) Hor(oshiy) Pogody"" by the Russians in 1847. Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 8), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), called it ""M(ys) Ltua"" meaning ""Cape Ltua.""" |
