|History:||U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) reports that the historical name "Big Loss Creek" was derived from an incident when a lightkeeper attempting to swim the creek found the foot bridge washed out and tried to throw his clothes ahead across the creek. The bundle of clothes fell short and was washed down stream. When the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) recommended a name for this feature, they chose "Mishap Creek."|
