History: | "Russian name given and published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 14), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as ""Zal(iv) Koshiginskoy,"" or ""Koshigin Bay,"" in honor of Yefim Koshigin who spent the winter at Unalaska in 1763 (Baker, 1906, p. 351). According to R. H. Geoghegan, the name ""Kashega"" is from the Greenlandic word ""qagshigit"" meaning ""men's clubhouses.""" |
