History: | "This cove is a good anchorage, reported by Elliott (1903, Saint George map and notes) in 1873-74. The Aleut name is ""Kra'kankring'a"" meaning ""facing the east,"" according to Putnam (1903, p.1015), U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. Elliott (p.19) writes that the early Russians ""planted at Garden Cove, ""which probably is the origin of the name." |
