History: | "Local name derived from a waterfall on the point. Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 21) called it ""M(ys) Yuzhnyy"" meaning ""Southern Cape,"" and Elliott (1881, p.55) called it both ""Southeast Point"" and ""Waterfall Head."" The Aleut names listed by Putnam (1903, p.1015), U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, are ""Egithrot'ogh"", meaning ""waterfall"" and ""Niyan-kiya,"" meaning ""ridge.""" |
