History: | "Discovered by Lieutenant Edward Belcher in September 1827 and named by Captain Beechey (1831, v. 2, p. 549), Royal Navy (RN), who wrote, ""This cove, which I have named after his (Lt. Belcher's) relation, Captain Marryat, R.N., is the estuary of a river which has no doubt contributed to throw up the point (Point Hope)."" Captain Marryat was a famous sailor and noveliet." |
