History: | Named by Lawrence Martin, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), about 1912 for Ralph Stockman Tarr, 1864-1912, professor of physical geography at Cornell University, who visited this fiord in 1911. Tarr was with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 1888-91, and taught geology and geography at Harvard and Cornell Universities 1890-1912. He was the author of many geological publications including several on Alaska. |
