History: | "According to William Williams (1889, p. 392), ""Yahtse"" is ""the name by which the Jones River is known to the Indians."" H. W. Topham reported the name in 1889 as Yahtse-Tah. In 1886 Lieutenant F. Schwatka, USA, named it the Jones River after the proprietor of the New York Times." |
