History: | Named for John W. Waydelich (1837-1914), one of the first white settlers in the Auke Bay area. After graduating from Yale University, he went to Montana and then to Alaska. In 1881 he moved to Juneau, and in 1892 claimed a homestead on Auke bay along the creek that now bears his name (DeArmond, 1957, p. 46-47). |
