History: | "Reported in 1778 by Cook (1785, v. 2, track chart), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN). Lieutenant Sarichev in his atlas 1826, map 3) indicated ""Ostrov Segum"" from an Aleut name. Called ""Segouam ile"" and ""Gorely Ile"" by Lutke (1836, p. 306). Goreli is Russian for ""burnt.""" |
