History: | Named in 1794 by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), for Henry Dundas, Treasurer of the British Navy at the time (Wagner, 1937, p. 385). Henry Dundas was born in Edinbough and became Solicitor General of Scotland in 1766. He was elected to Parliament in 1774 and became Treasurer of the Navy in 1782. He was appointed Home Secretary in 1791 and First Lord of the Admiralty in 1804. |
