History: | "Named ""Ostrov Morskoi,"" i.e. ""sea island,"" by Ensign Vasiliev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), in 1832. This name was translated by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) as ""Navy Island"" probably intentionally changing the meaning somewhat. Lutke (1836, p. 274) called it ""Ile du Large.""" |
