History: | "Named by P. S. Smith, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and shown on a 1926 fieldsheet by Gerald FitzGerald, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). According to Smith's notes the Eskimo call this hill Umiak, ""large boat."" The reason for changing the name is not clear (Chapman and Sable, 1960, p. 53)." |
