History: | "Named Elson's Bay by Captain Beechey (1831, p302), Royal Navy (RN), in September 1826 for Master Thomas Elson, Royal Navy (RN), of H.M.S. Blossom. Elson was placed in charge of a party sent in an open boat to explore the coast from NE of Icy Cape to Point Barrow (Beechy, p 304-321). Cmdr. Maguire (Great Britain, 1854, map facing p. 186), Royal Navy (RN), shows the name Tasuk, which is the common Eskimo generic ""Tasik"" for an enclosed body of water. " |
