Gerdine, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), who defined the feature as a bend in the North Fork Fortymile River. feet above the stream and the distance across the neck at the base is only 100 feet, while the distance around by stream is 2 3/4 miles. the waters were diverted from their former course and the stream bed was thus laid bare for mining"" (Prindle, 1906, p. 25)." |
