History: | "The name ""Bukhta Onasnaya"" meaning ""Dangerous Bay"" was given to this feature by Sub-Lt. Mikhail Murashev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), in 1839 or 1840 and published by the Russian Hydrographic Dept. on Chart 1425 in 1849. Baker (1906, p. 208), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), published the name ""Danger Bay"" when he translated from Murashev. In 1935 U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) gave the name Kazokof Bbay to this feature ""as the bay is deep with practically no dangers; to conform with local usage and to eliminate the inconsistency.""" |
