History: | "Named by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1934 for the Delphin, one of two vessels, which wore launched in 1795, ***"" (Bancroft, 1886, p. 333). These two vessels were built under the direction of Alexander Baranov of the Shelikov Company, and were the second and third ships to be built in northwestern America ""at Elovoi /spruce/ Island***near St. Paul's Harbor;*** /off Kodiak island/.""
